French Napoleonic Infantry Sabre-Briquet – Versailles – c.1809–1811
Original French infantry sabre-briquet, most likely the Modèle An XI, dating to the First Empire / Napoleonic period.
The brass hilt is clearly stamped VERSAILLES, indicating manufacture or assembly through the French state arms establishment at Versailles. Further inspection marks include “JC” punches, consistent with Jean Cazamajou, helping place the sword around 1809–1811.
The curved single-edged blade retains heavy age patination and corrosion, with the original spine inscription now largely lost, but the surviving inspection and arsenal marks give the piece strong Napoleonic-period character.
A genuine early-19th-century French military sidearm of the type carried by infantrymen throughout the Napoleonic Wars.
