1817 Autograph Letter by Prince Frederick, Duke of York & Albany – Handwritten & Signed

Original 1817 handwritten and signed letter by Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, second son of King George III and one of the most important senior figures in the British Army of the Napoleonic era.

The letter is written in the Duke’s own hand and signed by him, making it a particularly appealing piece of Georgian royal and military correspondence.

Prince Frederick served as Commander-in-Chief of the Forces and was a central figure in the reform and professionalisation of the British Army during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. By 1817 he had resumed the Commander-in-Chief post and remained one of the most influential figures in the British military establishment.

A strong original autograph document with direct royal provenance, dating from the immediate post-Waterloo period and suitable for a collection of royal autographs, Napoleonic history, British military documents or Georgian manuscripts.
