Austrian Wänzl Extra-Korps Carbine – 14×33mm Rimfire – Obsolete Calibre

Very scarce original 19th-century Austrian Wänzl Extra-Korps Carbine military rifle, dating from the period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and representing the early transition from muzzle-loading arms to metallic-cartridge breechloaders.

The Wänzl system converted earlier military rifles to a single-shot hinged breech-loading action, providing a relatively short-lived but historically important step between the Lorenz muzzle-loader and later Werndl service rifles. The Extra-Korps carbine was specifically issued to Engineers and other special units, as such they are very scarce on the market today. 

This example remains chambered for the obsolete 14×33mm Wänzl rimfire cartridge and retains the substantial proportions and military character associated with the Extra-Korps pattern.

A particularly interesting early cartridge military rifle and an attractive addition to an Austrian, European or general 19th-century arms collection.

Condition: Good original antique condition with age-related wear, marks and patina throughout. Previous period wrist repair on the stock. The metalwork and stock show the expected evidence of military service and more than 150 years of age. Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
