Original First World War Imperial German Seitengewehr 98/05 Neue Art (New Type) bayonet, manufactured in 1918 by Ernst Busch of Solingen.

Often referred to by collectors as the German “butcher blade” bayonet, the S98/05 was one of the best-known German bayonet patterns of the First World War and was principally associated with the Gewehr 98 rifle. This later Neue Art version incorporated the revised wartime configuration introduced during the conflict.

The blade carries the Ernst Busch, Solingen maker’s marking, with the Imperial acceptance/date marking indicating 1918 manufacture, placing it firmly within the final year of the First World War.

A substantial and very recognisable Imperial German bayonet with strong WW1 character and good collector appeal.

No scabbard present. 

Condition: Original antique condition with age-related wear, staining, patina and surface oxidation consistent with military service and more than a century of age. Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
