Steyr M1886 Portuguese Kropatschek Bayonet – Spanish Civil War Reissue / Militia Scabbard
Austrian-made Steyr Model 1886 bayonet for the Portuguese Kropatschek rifle, subsequently reissued for Spanish service and associated with the Spanish Civil War period.
The bayonet was originally manufactured by Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft, Steyr, as part of the Portuguese Model 1886 Kropatschek rifle system. It carries the distinctive later “Cross of Burgundy” marking associated with Spanish reissue/use.
Of particular interest is the scabbard, which bears field-applied or unit-style stamped markings consistent with Spanish militia use during the Spanish Civil War. The combination makes this a more unusual example than the standard Portuguese-contract M1886 bayonet, reflecting its later secondary service in Spain.
A very interesting piece for a collector of Portuguese military arms, Steyr/Kropatschek rifles, Spanish Civil War militaria or European bayonets.
Condition is as shown, with age-related wear and patination consistent with service and use. Please study the photographs carefully for markings and overall condition.
